The indo wonders why it is losing circulation and online eyeballs

Maybe if they cut back on their sensationalist hysterical bull.

Earlier today it was their annual cancer scare story (drinking tea causes cancer)

Now its a bs story claiming "revealed - where Dublin taxis rate on fares" https://www.independent.ie/irish-news/news/revealed-how-standard-taxi-charges-in-dublin-compare-to-20-major-cities-36560146.html

But they just quote the minimum fare - why, cos quoting a typical journey would show Dublin taxis at the lower end of their comparison - and that would not make a sensationalist hysterical headline.

Its about a year since I've taken a Dublin taxi, but have taken them in London, Birmingham and Newcastle in past 4 weeks and London is a crazy price for taxis, Birmingham and Newcastle not far behind.

3km journey London is about €12 without traffic delay. 3km Dublin is €6.50 - headline "Dublin taxi is almost half the price of London" would never pass the hysterical test.

Why do the indo only go for a sensationalist angle - are their readers THAT stupid?

In fairness the tea and cancer story was in the Irish Tines and other papers today as well.

What's "fake news" (I absolutely hate that term being used for anything someone doesn't like) about that? They say it's the standard charge clearly. Is that false? That's all they're comparing.

    The "hysterical" headline -
How standard taxi charges in Dublin compare to 20 major cities

    Oh the hysteria!

Because comparing a "standard charge" is meaningless. They dont even mention what the standard charge covers in each city. A cost per km would be much more sensible. Perhaps Sean couldnt find his calculator so omitted that info.

The Indo has become a bit of a joke in recent times. It appears to be a breeding ground for really shíte poor journalists to dream up their silly over sensationalised non-stories.

They see the Daily Mail, they see how the click bait makes them oodles of money. They copy the Daily Mail because people click on the clickbait.... Profit.... Minus integrity but what does integrity mean nowadays anyway....

A REAL journalist (indo don't employ real journalists) would see what a standard charge would get you in each city or if they wanted to be realistic or use a common city journey of 3km, or even a 3km, 5km and 10km journey. (Dublin comes out in the lower half on all those journeys - but that wouldn't make a senstaionalist story)

In London the "minimum fare" (its not called a "standard charge") gives you 254 metres, in Dublin it is 500 metres.
