I need to replace an Alcatel Idol 4 with something that costs no more than about €200. Currently with Three so either locked to Three or SIM free. Criteria as follows:

Screen no more than 5.2 inch but no less than 5.
    Decent camera
No need for great games capability
    Reliable Bluetooth connections to car
Faster than current Alcatel Idol 4
    Better battery life

Looked at Samsung J5 2017, Sony Expedia XA1, Huawei P8 Lite, and Moto G5S. All about €200 and seem very similar, anyone suggest which is best or an alternative?

I'm in a similar position as my Alcatel Idol 3 is now dying a slow and painful death!

Can't complain as I got two years out of it and it was cheap as chips. The killer though was that it receives no updates at all now and is stuck on Android 5.something

So When Looking for a replacement I found out about Android One which is Google's initiative to deliver stock Android to manufacturers that they can then use without any other layers or complications - end result is a cleaner and more frequently updated OS.

The Moto G5 range seems to score highly in all of the the reviews I've read so that looks like a good option for you.

I've opted for the Xiaomi mi A1 which is one of the first phones to run Android One. Reviews are good and it looks like a solid if unspectacular mid-ranger in terms of features.

The price is good too, I picked up one yesterday from Amazon Spain for €185.

Xiaomi Mi A1 - Smartphone - Amazon ES

It is 5.5 inch though so might not be the size you are looking for. Dual camera on the back and fingerprint sensor.

Thanks for taking the time to reply devildriver, I'll investigate the Android One phones, but also see if the Xiaomi Mi A1 would suffice, can't have everything on the list I suppose!

    No problem.

Moto X4 looks good but much more expensive.

    I'm in the same boat.
Dropped my Samsung Galaxy Mini 3 yesterday and shattered the glass. Repair place in Galway says not economical to repair.

Phone has served me well over the last 4 - 5 years I've had it.

    What would people recommend?

Seen an add for a free iPhone 6 on a €30/month contract. It's a 24 month contract but when you take away the money you'd spend buying credit the phone would cost €200

Well... as I wrote on the Xiaomi thread.

Just ordered an Xiaomi Mi A1 Official Global Version 64GB Smartphone there on Honorbuy..... €210.81.

Should be a bit of an upgrade from my Samsung S3 Mini!!!!
