Other than tax , is there a noticeable economy difference and power difference?

Which is best model to have ?

    Thanks in advance

Which model are you talking 03-09 or 09-now?

The older model 1.8 will be more economical if you do more high speed driving, new model 1.6 is better on fuel than the 1.8 regardless but it’s very close.

The 1.8 is far easier to live with on a motorway cruise . The 1.6 revs over 3000 rpm in 5th gear at around 120kph so it's quite noisy and uncomfortable at higher speeds.

    What about economy difference?

You still haven't told us which generation of Avensis you are interested in. 2003 to 2009 or 2009 to 2018?

Ok, those would be fitted with the dual VVTi engines which are quite good on fuel. I'd have the 1.8 litre over the 1.6 though, the Avensis is a big car so the extra bit of poke would be useful for overtaking. I cannot see the fuel economy difference between both being a deal breaker. 1.8 versions are rare enough though and most of them especially if automatic would have been ex rentals I'd say.

Depends on what you enjoy! They’re reasonably quiet and comfortable. They’re not involving but they’re not offensive either.

1.8 manual would really be a U.K. thing. Aim for a model with lumbar support and cruise control etc. These would be called Strata models here.
