Shudder when braking and then skid

So this morning driving up to roundabout and possibly approach slighty too fast but had time to brake. So hit the break and all I get is a shudder and seems like the brakes locked up and only that the car in front had gone from roundabout that I didn't end up hitting them.

I had the car serviced by Indy mechanic who I trust about 3000 miles ago and brake pads were changed then it's a very polo 1.2 petrol about 8 years old with 80k miles on it.

Car seemed to be fine later on and drive back from work. Road temps were cold this morning but bit concerned about what it could have been - do I need to bring back to mechanic.

Obviously will approach roundabouts a good bit slower but any thoughts what it was / anyone else had this happen.

You skidded on ice. The shudder was the ABS operating. It pulses the brakes on and off very quickly to prevent the wheels locking up.

Are you sure it wasn't just the ABS kicking in?

Yeah wondered if it was ice. I'm an idiot should take it handier. Lesson learnt

Abs isn't worth a sh1t in ice or snow.

Keep more distance between you and vehicle in front and adjust speed and driving to match that of the conditions.
