Public service card and first passport

    Hi,

I am travelling to Poland in March and will be applying for my first passport, I noticed I'm asked to have a public service card as part of the documents for the application,

I've applied for a public service card 2 weeks and was told it takes 5-10 working days,

I'm just wondering if the psc is mandatory for first time application or is there anything that could be used in its place,

I want to apply for my passport as soon as possible so if I could skip over the public service card part that would speed it up a bit

    Thanks in advance!

Go into your local Intreo/Social Protection office and see if you can get your PSC appointment as a walk in or arrange something sooner. Bring all documentation requested with you.

Hi, see I have already applied for a public service card two weeks ago but still haven't received it in the post,

I dont want to leave my passport application much later so I'm wondering would there be any way of applying for the passport without the public service card

Not be in Ireland applying for the passport. Irish citizens living in other countries don't need a psc. the six counties is a different country, as is britain.
and you don't need a passport to get there from here.

going to britain wouldn't be much use to them time wise. they would have to attend at the embassy in London and have the passport sent to an address in england. Plus the passports get printed here anyway. Not much (if any) of a time saver. To apply from Northern Ireland you would have to be resident there. If they were resident there they would not have created this thread.

I wanted a first time passport 8 months ago, applied for PSC twice. Still waiting 8 months later, GOOD LUCK!

You never told us why you didn’t attend your INTREO office in person to apply for that card.

I walked into the office for my card on the off chance they could do it for me.( no appointment )
No hassle had about 30 minutes of a wait and the card was posted to me within the week.
Just make sure you have all the relevant paperwork with you so not to cause a delay.
If they question you on why you didn’t make appointment explain about the passport Application.

Did you go to your local department of Social Protection to apply?

That's what they told me. It is comical, but jokes on them. They keep saying it's being processed, but ran out of chips.
They never said '' we don't have it ,go do interview and apply that way'' that is why I haven't so far.

No didn't need to as I had a new drivers licence in last few years. Those who renewed a licence recently get a form in post to apply for PSC, no need for an in person interview as they gathered the info they needed when my drivers licence was renewed.
I applied twice through this form process.

I taught everyone had to go to office to get a card and for them to take photo and check paperwork?
I got mine about 4 months ago and they had to separate waiting areas , one for people with an appointment and one for walk ins.

You had no trouble getting yours that way though gmail? No shortage of “chips” where you are! How long were you waiting?

this was some time last year. i was waiting a couple of months.

To apply from Northern Ireland you would have to be resident there. If they were resident there they would not have created this thread.
How is residency defined for first passport applications?
especially for 18 year old citizens who may have recently moved.

That’s interesting. Another poster is waiting months too. It does seem faster to go in for the interview.

maybe it is but i wasnt waiting on it and I didnt have to do anything except return a form giving my consent for the driving licence info to be used to generate a PSC
