    Well lads,
Been toying with the idea of changing the main car for a while now. We need something with some space, preferably an estate.
I will be going to the uk to purchase. Budget of around €10k.
Any thoughts on the superb I have linked below?
Are the miles too high for this engine?
We will be doing around 17k miles per annum in it.
Looking at exchange rates, vrt and travel it will come in a little over budget, but happy enough if the car is a good one.

I have a 2011 version of this .. have about 325,000km on the clock and apart from normal servicing have not had to do anything to it. (Water pump and timing chain done as well)

Replaced a single brake light. It is returning just over 60mpg tracked by the Fuelly app.

It is a comfy workhorse and the elegance edition has all the toys you need.

The only cons are it isn’t a rocket ship- but despite what internet experts will tell you it can over take and I’ve done plenty of fully loaded European trips in plenty of comfort.

The back lights on the bottom half of the dash (rev meter and speedo) went about 12 months ago .. it’s a full dash out and repair job which I just couldn’t be bothered with.

It’s a perfectly practical car with huge boot and leg room but nothing exciting and you won’t be blown away by it.

    Thanks for the reply,
    Thatd music to my ears.!
It'll be mostly my wife driving it. Our requiremnts are really space, reliability, comfort.. that type of thing. Performance would be down the list. Obviously a bit of power would be nice but not crucial.
Two kids so a big boot is a must for us.
Something that will shift again in a couple of years also would be good!
My thinking is if we were to buy that one it will still be a relatively ok car in 2 years to move on with approx 135k miles on her.

    Any other thoughts appreciated.

I drove this engine in a similar vintage Passat.

It wouldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding and I couldn't get more than 50 mpg despite doing mostly motorway driving.

I'd get a 2.0 diesel, it will be much easier to live with and will probably use less fuel in the real world, too.

In terms of performance I'm not too bothered. As I said, it'll be mostly the missus driving it and having just conferred this second she is definately not too bothered!!
The huge space for baby seats and the boot is what is making it attractive to us.
Overtaking and/or torque issues aside, I suppose I am more looking to see are there any major reliability issues, particularily one with 100k miles.
I will definately keep an eye out for a 2.0 one though. Thanks.

Errrr is that common? That would annoy the ****e out of me, not to mention a bit of a hazard for night time driving when you can't tell what speed your doing easily.

It doesn’t affect being able to see the speedo at all .. I’m not sure if it’s common at all but relatively no much of a problem

That's the s version not elegance.
So no climate control, no satnav and if not mistaken the elegance would also have heated seats.
What sort of driving is she doing?
Would the tsi engine not make more sense if it's just to the shops and back?
