    hi All,
i have just gotten a digital thermostat on my copper hot water cylinder installed but the temperature never reaches the limit of 60C that i have set on it. The highest it has reached is 50 so far and thats leaving it on all day, what could the problem be. I am heating it through an oil boiler heating system. I have been told the thermostat is working fine. With the previous thermostat i had no readout so I don't know what the actual temperature was reaching before.

What is the boiler stat set to?

The boiler should have a temperature setting which indicates how hot the water will get.

Looks like the water temperature at the boiler is too low or the water flow through the cylinder coil is closed down too much.

yes i know it needs to get to 60 and i have tried turning up the boiler but it still didnt reach 60 after that change. i don't know what temperature the boiler is at exactly as its dial is numbered one to five (no temperature indication for these numbers).

how would i go about adjusting the water flow to see if it makes a difference? can i do it or should i call a plumber

Take a photo of your boiler and any controls on it and a photo of your hotpress and post it here.

On my simple setup there's a gate valve on the return side of the coil.

I would leave that valve as it is, if its getting to 50 it has circulation.
Sounds like boiler stat is turned down

1/ Set the boiler stat to 3. Start the boiler with the system cold. How long does it take until the boiler thermostat reaches temperature and turns off the burner

2/Set the boiler stat to 3. Turn off all the rads, run boiler and see what temperature the cylinder reaches
