Notifying insurance company after passing test?

Anyway, I passed my driving test, first time, in Wilton last Monday. At what point should I notify my insurance company? I won't have the physical licence for about 10 days, so do I have to wait until then to advise them?

Yes. You won't be considered fully licensed until you have your full license issued. And congratulations!

Call them straight away, I think they just ask for your certificate of competency

    Congratulations.

I'd inform them immediately. I don't think it will effect the cost of the policy till you renew it but it won't do any harm to let them know.

I passed my test as a named driver so cancelled my insurance and got a small refund of money then I got insurance in my own name

Call them immediately and let them know about the change in circumstances, exactly how they are, i.e. "I just passed and I'll expect the license in 10 days". Don't give them any reasons to claim that you failed to disclose, just in case.
    And congratulations :)

Call them now and check to see if they will accept the cert of competency or the receipt confirming you have applied for your full licence. Some will accept one of those, others won't, There's no harm in asking.

If they don't accept them, send in the full licence as soon as you get it. Not for any non-disclosure issue, but because if there is a return then you will get the most you can. Not all will back date to the date of issue so the earlier you send in the licence, the better.

From what I've heard the premium may go up instead of down when you get the full license, as now you can drive alone so they can consider you a higher risk.

I think that may be the case in some instances but I'm guessing it's for younger drivers. I'm 34 with a 3 year NCD. I run the quotes online with my existing insurance company (Axa), and my premium will drop from €1200 to €600.

Will notify them today, that I've passed. Hopefully they implement the discount immediately. Will keep you all posted

I am with Liberty and I called them straight away to tell them I passed that day and they updated records straight away.

Indeed, it's also supposed to be taken as a disclaimer :)

Notify them straight away, and advice you are awaiting to receive licence. I guess they will update it there and then, and credit/refund any difference, or advice you to call back when you receive the licence. Either way, at least you have disclosed all changes in circumstances, and it is on record.

    Oh, and congrats.

haven't ever come across that - 3 kids all passed their tests and I got refunds each time from 3 different insurance companies. In each case, i told the insurance company straight away and as soon as they had the proof of the full licence emailed to them, the refund was backed to the date they were informed.
