    Hey all,
Was wondering what the market would be like for Healthcare information technology specialists in Ireland? Are there a lot of positions available? I tried to check on the online job boards and could hardly find any openings.
Also, would an American associate degree in Health IT would be accepted/respected in Ireland? I realise the Irish and American healthcare systems are very different so I will have to learn a few things.
    Cheers and thanks a lot!

There hasn't been much of a demand until recently for healthcare IT specialists. Hospitals have their own IT departments that look after all the general stuff and suppliers look after specialised products. That is probably changing with more national systems (radiology, bloodtrack, MN-CMS, MedLIS).

    Thanks Dingle_berry!
Hopefully someone else can verify this.

    Hi adrian32,

Several private hospitals in Ireland (Hermitage, Beacon, Galway Clinic) use Meditech. Others use Cerner (St. James and the maternity hospitals). So if you have experience in either of those EHRs there could be opportunities there.

Aside from EHRs, many hospitals require helpdesk staff and clinical analysts, and a small few have in-house developers.

There are also some health tech companies, ranging from small start-ups all the way up to IBM Watson.

A good place to start would be to contact the Health Informatics Society of Ireland: www.hisi.ie

Send me a direct message on here if you want to chat more.

    Best of luck.
