    Hi.
Just wondering if anyone can help.
A qualified secondary teacher looking at moving home from London has been offered a position as a fixed term Primary teacher in Dublin from Feb 11th till June 22nd.
The pay will be salary, not daily pay. There will be no deductions for Easter Holidays and pay will be given up until June 30th.
What Im wondering is, what's the monthly pay going to be for a teacher considered as unqualified?
    Thanks.

If you will be paid over holidays then it must be privately paid, as any appointments at this stage of the year would not pay for holidays. In normal circumstances this would be paid the unqualified daily subbing rate but who knows if it's not a DES paid position.

Paid over Easter hols. Not summer.

Appointments after first school Monday in November don't pay for any holiday periods.

The daily subbing rate includes a provision for 12% to be witheld and paid at Christmas/Easter/Summer as appropriate. But regular payment is not made over holidays.

Oh ok. So there would be no pay through the 2 weeks off over Easter.

Didn't know you could do this. Did you apply for primary positions directly or did someone advise you to apply for a particular position?

How can an unqualified teacher teach in one class for that length of time?

In exceptional circumstances, a person who is not a registered teacher may be employed in the place of a registered teacher. This may happen only where the employer has made all reasonable efforts to appoint a registered teacher but where no registered teacher is available to take up the position. Such a person will be remunerated at the unqualified rate of pay for non-consecutive periods of no more than 5 consecutive school days (c/f Appendix A of DES Circular 0052/2013).

Because this refers only to not being registered - not being unqualified. It says nothing about having to be registered in the relevant sector.

I don't know but I'm assuming they will be. If not the 5-day rule will apply to them. But that would be the case whether looking for second level jobs or primary.
