So my C class is due for service in a months time and wondering if it's worth getting it done at the main dealer? It's end of 3rd year for this car, so it will cost for service this time and onwards in future.

What's the usual cost for service? Everything working fine in the car.

Any ideas or suggestions most appreciated.
    Thanks

I personally don't find any better benefit with main dealer except they usually charge at higher rate for similar services. A good garage could do the job well enough.

Have you priced the dealer on a service?

If there's not a whole lot in it price wise it's nice to retain a dealer history on a premium car like that and to benefit from software updates etc. That and it will stand to the car if you need to look for goodwill on an unexpected failure etc.

I'd imagine even a lube service with Merc could be saucey enough though?

Future goodwill is the main point. You will be out of warranty but should a major repair be needed, there is a good chance of cover should you have full dealer servicing history.

    All right.

After looking online on benz website, service cost is €179. I don't know if that's a good price?
I changed my previous car at the end of 3 years so never had to pay for service from my pocket.
I plan to use this car for another year or so. Saving bucks to get a more premium car from UK next year.

€179 wouldn't be bad for a Merc main dealer oil service IMO. Sure you'd still be talking over €100 for a decent independent to do it.

After that, any extras that they can and will find, I'd price around just to be sure, in terms of brakes, tyres etc.

What needs doing in a service depends on what the manufacturer recommends at set age or mileage intervals. It will also depend on what was done at the last service interval. Non savy people tend to quantify the word service as "one size fits all" all inclusive, it's not.

While you might get an oil and filter change for €179 from the likes of Mercedes you can be sure the dealer will still go off Mercede's recommendations based on your car's age and mileage and will give a quote based on that. You might also be quoted for the likes of a full vehicle inspection, pollen & fuel filter, wipers and possibly brake pads & discs.

Is it usual to have a quote before giving up your vehicle for yearly service?
Apologies if I may sound stupid now. Learning alot from you all

Was the car serviced with Irish Mercedes dealers upto now? If so once they have the reg they should have access to the service records. If they are similar to BMW then I've always got quotes up front rather than just dropping it in and then getting a surprise when presented with the bill. If they find an issue that needs fixing outside of regular maintenance then they should contact you first to authorize them to proceed or not.

Just asked them to call you before doing anything over the regular service.

179 is probably oil and filters change only. There could be other items or fluids to be replaced after 3 years.

Pretty sure they will quote you when you drop the car in. With a 3 years old car I would stick to the main dealer, unless something expensive is to be replaced.

€179 is th entry price for an oil change, it's all extras from there. At 3 years of age you will need more than an oil change.

Just ring them with your reg and mileage and they will be able to quote you the correct price over the phone.

Yes, Mercedes dealer in Ireland serviced every time and it's an Irish car. Had engine light (faulty oxygen sensor) twice last year, same dealer fixed it for free as it was under warranty.

I understand now that dealer should ask us before going ahead to replace expensive parts.
Will ring my dealer next week and ask for a quote.
