    Hi all,

Just wondering if someone could answer a question that has me a bit confused. My wife is looking to renew her provisional licence, new one would be her 4th.

Question is - under current learner permit scheme, can she still renew the old provisional licence or will she need to transfer to learner permit?? I can't find anything about this on the NDLS site. Also (if it's possible to renew) is it D401 or D201 to be completed?

    Cheers.

The old provisional is now called the learner permit and has been for a number of years. You’d use the current form that the NDLS state you should ie D201
A D401 is for FULL licences only

If she has an old "provisional licence" then that means it hasn't been valid in over a decade (provisionals changed to permits in 2006) and the rule is that it would no longer have been valid after 5 years. If all that is the case, I'm afraid she would be starting over as if she never held that old provisional licence and she would have to start with the theory test and mandatory EDT lessons.

If the above is not the case, then as MD85 states, you can simply renew it using a D201 (beware of any personal details such as address and so on). The only question then is whether she has a test booked or has a recent driving test "outcome" cert (ie a fail cert).
