Does €500 for a wiring loom and approx €1300 for an ECU sound reasonable? Given it's an 09 and the suspension in on the verge of needing doing and I better to just get rid? For scrappage does the car have to be working?

    Thanks all!

Without knowing too much more it doesn't sound immediately unreasonable. It does sound like you want a reason to decide that it isn't though.

replacing the wiring loom could be a huge job, A lot of hours involved.
As for the ECU, they can be very expensive depending on the car model, But it never hurts to get a second or even third quote from other garages.

A ecu AND a wiring loom? Did it go up in flames?

And a coil pack and a throttle body.

Fiats and electrics I guess. I wouldn't mind but it spent weeks with Fiat and a main dealer who said there was nothing wrong with it. They're going to replace the loom and hope it's that but reckon it could as easily be the ECU.

Might give Fiat a call and see if they'll lend us an ECU for elimination purposed. Helps when you're related to an one of these twitter people with tens of thousands of followers :pac:

If you're anywhere near Dublin speak to Auto Maintenance Services. https://www.automaintenance.ie/ They're not far from Dublin airport. They really know their FIAT's and helped me out of a few issues and dealer f-ups on my Panda.

No affiliation other than being a happy customer.

Just a live with it kind of thing?

It's juddering basically - not as bad as before the coil pack was replaced.

No it's impossible to live with as the car has f€ck all power and isn't running right at all.

Power - what there is in a Fiat 500 - seems okay oddly enough. It has been right down on power before though.

Are you getting the work done in a main dealer?

Thats some expensive troubleshooting! Is it with a specialist?

It's been through two main dealers one Northside that was awful and a Southside one who are doing their best but... still looks like they have to replace half the engine to track it down. Definitely going to try the other place mentioned here.

    Any suggestions/advice most welcome!

Even getting a second hand ECU should slash that bill. Also an independent garage may be able to repair the loom where Fiat would have to do things by the book?

I think you need a automotive electrician or somebody with the gear to data log and real diagnostic equipment.

Jomo engineering do good work too.

I had a juddering issue on my 1.2 '11 Panda when pulling off. It turned out to be that the timing belt was slightly too tight. I ended up getting it replaced as it was coming up due for replacement anyways.

There's a southside dealer that recently moved that I dealt with. Never again - nearly lost the engine and got gassed in the cabin with fumes due to their incompetance.
They've also been hassling me for months about trading back in the car. I told them where to go.

Google 'Citroen C3 fusebox problems' and you'll find it's not simply 'Fiat and electrics. We recently had a 2011 C3 in with a fusebox/loom issue, car is an uneconomical repair because of same.
