As well to scrap?

    Hi folks

    Appreciate some informed thought!

i've a battered Octavia 2002 1.9tdi ambiente that has just failed the NCT on minor grounds- front shocks and nothing else.

We live in town and never use it and have decided between tax, insurance (looking horrific this year as it hits 15) and the cost of repairs, as well as it being a large diesel engine and needing to be used, we're as well to be rid of it.

At 200k miles the engine is running perfectly, but the timing belt will probably want to be done again in the next year.

The bodywork is patchy enough- I filled in some scrapes and bumps with a 'closest match' colour a few months back. The drivers wing mirror is taped on after gurriers took a dislike to it a while back.

Otherwise perfect working order and always reliable.

Now: I've missed the deadline for declaring it off the road by one day.

Short question: between now having to tax it for three months, and the age and condition described, am I as well to scrap the car or is there any prospect of finding a buyer for it as is at any price!

Might be worth sticking on donedeal listing the issues. Ask for around €400 maybe and see what interest you get. You will probably get less than €100 for it as scrap so I'd leave that as a last option.

Thanks Bazz. I'm tossing the bother back and forth in my head but a few hundred notes wouldn't be a bad result.

Yeah, unfortunately expect chancers, tyre kickers and the likes to pester you too.
