Electric Heaters - Convection v Ceramic Wall Panel

    Hey

My gas bill the last couple of months was very high, cause of the cold snap. So my plan is to

    1. Go on a nightly saver rate for electricity
    2. Mount an extra electric radiator in each room
    3. Wire these radiators to timers and thermostats so over night, they will come on and off as required to keep the room temp around 20 degrees.

    My question though is

    1. Are convection heaters way better than the wall mounted ceramic eco panel heaters?

*I would imagine a heater that takes in cold air and blows out warm air is allot better than a panel that just gets hot. But the wall mounted ceramic heaters look way better and can be painted. For example below...

How do you think this is going to save you any money? The price of a kWh of gas is lower than a kWh of electricity.

Either type will have exactly the same efficiency if that’s what you mean. The fan heater will give the sensation of the room getting warmer quicker.

Is there anything at all else you can do to make the place warmer or more efficient? How deep is your attic insulation? What sort of state are the windows in? Are there droughts that could be blocked up? How old is your gas boiler?

I have never seen a report that recommends using electric heating over gas, and I have been looking in to what the best electric solutions may be due to gas being unavailable in my estate for some time.

Also you realise that if you install a night saver meter you will pay higher electricity costs for the rest of your day time consumption along with higher standing charges?

If you want to cut down on your gas usage, as above can you not look into improving insulation etc. Perhaps turn off the radiators in unused rooms.
If you want to use electric heaters then just buy a cheap fan heater or other type and use that.
