€30k petrol auto saloon

OK a family member needs a new car. They want the above rightly or wrongly. They have a 07 BMW 523i in fair condition with 10 months tax and nct and 150K Kms. They want newish 5 series petrol which obviously is hard to find. They live in the city centre and one of them has a medical condition which requires an auto. They do not want a diesel.

I recommended a Lexus IS300 hybrid or Merc C class or BMW 3 series petrol imported from the UK but they are not convinced. They will go to UK but their heart is set on a 5 series petrol

Any other suggestions? They don't mind big fuel bills but they are sick of paying €1000 tax per year and would like to get that down.

There are a few 2013/2014 535i on autotrader.co.uk for around GB £17k. Not sure what the VRT would be on one but Co2 figures are low enough on them, circa under 180g meaning more reasonable motor tax.
