    Hi,

Does anyone know if Social Welfare offer any help as I am starting work soon but I need to relocate and would need money for start (rent, deposit etc). I am on Jobseeker Allowance currently.

I will be earning 32k/year but need some money for start as I said. I dont know about going to the bank because it is 6 month contract and probation period in which they can kick me out with 1 week notice :X

    Regards

    Exceptional Needs Payment?

Although starting full time employment might rule you out of that one...

    I highly doubt it.
Its a bank or CU you go to for a loan.
If your starting work, they will not give you money from your first day of employment.
you have to let them know ASAP of the date you start work.
so lets say you get JSA on Tuesday 3rd (fictional date), and your to start work on the Wednesday, they will suspend that Tuesday payment because, well, the name of the payment is job SEEKERS allowance. You don't need the payment anymore. I was on JSA payment for two years and I've put money aside to do me 2 months while on it to survive between the last SW payment and my pay check, to be safe.

When I was coming off JSA to start work they asked me was I getting paid weekly or monthly. I was weekly at that stage but she told me that if it had been monthly I could have applied to the community welfare officer for a payment to bridge me til my first payday. So there is some support available but whether it will be enough to cover all your costs, I have no idea.

O.o: My payment is monthly and I am starting on 26th February, paid every 4th. I guess I will go to social welfare and ask them..

Go to SW to see the CWO for an SWA.
You’ll only get it if you have more or less no other means for the month.
Do go though, you’ve nothing to lose and they won’t leave you starving!

They can arrange for you to still receive payments for a number of weeks once you get back to work to help you get started, but not a lump sum. I was told so at my last JSA meeting last week.

I went in today and was disappointed.

I live in Youghal where the earliest bus to Cork runs at 7:00 (college terms only) or 7:10 (all year round). Long story short I can't make it on 8:30 to work because of how the buses run (Youghal -> City Gate, Mahon. The earliest I could be is I think on 9:10 or 9:20....

But the lady in Social Welfare office didn't help me at all and I still have to attend some group meeting at 22 of February and they don't care I am starting work at 26th...
I said I have no money to move to cork for my job but she doesn't care... NICE!!!!!

I will say to my employer that I can't make it on 8;30 and they either allow me to come at 9:10 9:20 or I guess the can terminate my contract... It would be funny if they stopped my Jobseeker Aloowance because of that obviously it is my fault I got a job and have no money!!!!!

This thread can be closed thanks guys who replied here

I've never heard of sw giving a relocation payment tbh.
They may give you some payment for a few weeks to help tide you over until your first wages come through.

Credit union should be able to organize a loan for you with repayments delayed until your first pay day if you explain your situation and are a known and trusted customer.best of luck in the new job

Stick up notices or post in the Cork county forum looking for a a car pool with space in it. You're far from the only person commuting that route, even if you got a lift (paid) to the city centre you could get an earlier bus out to Mahon.
