2 weeks ago, bought 06 Fiat punto from private seller. NCT done a month ago and was happy enough buy it. Started driving it 3 days ago and noticed when turning, there is a clunking noise and steering abit loose. It wasn't there when I took it on a road test before buying. Took it to my mechanic and he said it was a seize suspension. I'm very annoyed about it especially with the NCT, aren't they supposed to check it out? Since I bought from private seller, is it possible to return the car and get a refund? If l can't, what would it cost to fix it? Or should I sell it? Can anyone tell me what should I do or the best way?
Bought it for my daughter for learning

If you mean a snapped spring I have had two go in a Mondeo sitting on my drive 1 year apart from each other. Heard a bang each time.

It happens and would have happened if the car was still in the previous owners possession.

If new spring needed about 120 - 150 should fix it as it is best to replace both sides.

Private sale means you have no comeback, buyer beware and all that. NCT is just a snapshot in time test of roadworthiness, it doesn't guarantee that the car is mechanically sound a month later. Also it's always produent to have your mechanic inspect the car prior to buying it rather than afterwards, he could have spotted the seized component and saved you some agro. Did your mechanic not give you a price on fixing the issue?

It could be an upper strut bearing .
I had 2 springs go with in a month.
    One rear and one front

That was my biggest mistake and since my post was put up, there's seem to be more problems. Should have got it checked out 1st. Very annoyed with myself
Did ask the mechanic about what it would cost, all he said it fine to drive it but will have to get it fix sometime, didn't say anything about the cost.

I personally always budget €500 when buying an used car privately and assume that it will be needed immediately on the top of the purchase price. If there is any money left over (which hardly ever happens btw) happy days. Then just keep on top of the maintenance throughout the ownership.
