Hi I recently bought a new car. All grand and dandy. Whilst doing repairs the tachometer has stopped reading. Everything else is working fine. Nct booked for 11th feb. would this be a fail or do they even look at that? TIA

There is nothing specific about it in the manual but due to the fact that they have to do emmisions tested on both idle and specific Rev counts this would mean they cannot preform the test and so it's a fail.

    perhaps not.
not all cars have a tacho in which case the tester will presumably read the rpm off the OBD port.
OP, I'd get it tested anyway or ring up the NCT to find out if you don't get a definitive answer here

The emissions machine has a tachometer that takes a feed from the engine. Your car does not require a working tacho
