Coillte on RTE this morning saying they are not keeping to there part of the deal with forest maintenance, and not paying farmers correctly, or at all in some cases , must be bad when they are admitting it. They are getting KPMG in to prove it was a systems failure.

I'm aware of instances where felling licences have been obtained for thinning, then Coillte have suddenly refused to thin the forest, as roadway construction was too expensive. This raises a few issues:
    1. The forestry didn't suddenly move further away from the public road - Locations and access limitations were obviously known approx. 20 years prior to these issues when they were planted.
    2. The long term commercial value of the forest is being compromised due to short term thinking
    3. This is a bolt out of the blue to farmer partners who were expecting revenues to flow from thinnings.
