A friend of mine was diagnosed with dyslexia as a child in school.

She is applying for college at the moment as a mature student but her cert has run out (it only lasts for 3 years or something like that??). Is it possible to ring the school and get the cert reissued or does she have to sit a new test at a cost of circa €490?

The school doesn't issue certificates. She would need a psycho-educational assessment, done by an educational psychologist, which costs around the figure you mention above. Such assessments are only valid for two years.Has the college actually looked for an up to date assessment?

Forgive me if I am wrong, but for the DARE scheme, a psychological report that indicates difficulties of a dyslexic like nature, there is no age limit for the application. If your friend has a full assessment from an appropriately qualified psychologist, then I was of the opinion that would be ok. Again, apologies if this is incorrect. Your friend could make contact with the Disability Support Service for their intended college of choice for advice on the DARE scheme.

it's unlikely an educational psychologist will just do attainment scores, outside of a school setting. Have a look below.

"This summary report can be used by psychologists to report recent attainment scores dated after 1 February 2016 but must also be accompanied by a full psychological report of any age and an Educational Impact
    Statement. "
