Entitlement to carers allowance

Hi, I'm wondering would I be entitled to carers allowance based on the following.

Caring and living with my 85 year old father.

I'm self employed as a Taxi driver. With a girlfriend and 2 kids(all 5 of us live together) .

Can only work short hours at present due to his immobility. He can still walk just needs help to the bathroom, get dressed, can't cook etc.

He gets a pension of about 500 a week but he doesn't spend much of it. Maybe half including medication and bills, helping me and my family when we're stuck cause I can't work enough at present.

He has quite a bit of cash in the bank.

I can't give up my Taxi licence as when he does pass away I won't be able to get it back if it's more than a year.

    Thanks.

Carers allowance is paid based on if he needs continuous care and attention and needs a doctor to fill it in to say that he needs this. You can work up to 15 hours a week while recieving it.

The means test is based on you and your spouse, does your girlfriend work?

his needs are continuous. I'm actually bringing him to the doctor tomorrow morning. Maybe I should ask him about it?
Girlfriend works in Dunnes. She works a minimum of 15 hours but usually 20 hours a week.
My bank account would be sporadic to say the least. Last year some months would show I lodged 5000 and others less than 1 thousand based upon his health mostly.
As a Taxi driver I can't prove hours worked or not worked so how does this work out, do you know?

Perhaps pick up a carers allowance form and bring it with you to the doctors to get that bit done!

I'm not sure how it works for self employed people, maybe give citizens advice a call?

OK thanks I'll check it out. If anyone has any first hand experience with the whole selfemployed thing I'd love to hear. Thanks.
