I only noticed it today, I don't think it's on her long. It's on the back end, up at the top, to the right of the back passage. It's about the size of your fist, maybe a bit longer, seems soft, squishy, just under the hair doesn't seem painful to the animal. Hex heifer, 16months. Abcess ??? Vet???

Possibly an abcess alright, had a cow with on her hip a few years ago, eventually broke out. She then got one on her thigh about 6 moths later. She was fine other wise and we sent her to the factory after she calved.

Could be a hematoma which is like a bruise really where the blood just fills the available space until the pressure generated stops it filling more. That wouldn't be any harm at all. I'd just keep an eye on her.

Have a 6 month hex with same at base of his dewlap, not sore or tender. Presume some sort of hurt from feed barrier, I’ll just leave it be and it will either rupture or go down.
