Saorsat and Free To Air together

I just want to discuss how this solution would work in theory.

I have an Enigma2 receiver at the moment and am very happy.
It has 2xDBV-T tuners and 2xDVBS2 tuners.
I have Saorview and Free To Air with 7 day EPG, PVR etc.

Would it be possible to get a FBC 2xDVB-S2 receiver and connect one satellite feed to a SaorSat dish and one feed to a Free To Air dish (or a single dish with 2 LNBs)?
This would give a receiver 4 SaorSat feeds and 4 Free To Air feeds (more than enough).

I suspect all this will work in theory ... but will there be problems in real life?
Can I still get 7 day EPG with SaorSat from the signal and not have to reply on some HTTP based EPG?

I do not understand why you would consider Saorsat when you can receive Saorview, as Saorsat does not carry the full compliment of Saorview channels.

In addition, as Saorview broadcasts only two muxes, there is no need for more than two DVB-T tuners to make all Saorview channels available concurrently to multiple clients.

You refer to a "FreeView dish" ...... but Freeview is a terrestrial UK transmission received by aerial, in similar fashion to Saorview, but requiring DVB-T2 tuners for reception of HD channels.

So in this case it seems you really mean Free to Air Satellite and not Freeview. You might edit your post for clarity if that is the case.

If you want extra Free-to-Air Satellite tuners in your set up then maybe something like this would fit your set up?
    https://www.telestar.de/de_DE/DIGIBIT-R1/352-8817-8819/

That will take a single coax input from a Unicable II LNB to provide 4 tuners.

You're absolutely right Johnboy - I mean Free To Air and not Freeview. I've edited the post to reflect this.

I was only talking about "in theory". I'm not saying I'm going to do it.

    Reasons for doing this:
    1. There is a much better selection of 2xDVB-S2/SX receivers on the market.
    2. I can only find 2 receivers that offer quad capabilities: 2xDVB-SX + 2xDVB-T. Gigable and VU+. The VU+ is over €600  (there used to be more options a few of years ago but these are discontinued)
    3. You don't need an aerial and a co-ax feed from aerial (some houses already have 2 feeds coming from a sat dish and nothing else)
I realise you could get a 2xDVB-S2 + 1xDVB-T + 1xUSB Tuner to overcome this too. I just want to understand the other options available.

You can add a dual USB DVB-T tuner to your 2xDVB-S2 box. Many people, myself included, used secondhand Sony Play TV dual tuners.

To get Saorsat and 28E you would need a dish larger than the basic Sky type. Then install 2 LNBs, 1 for UK and the special type for Saorsat. Next add 2 DISEQC switches so the DVB-S2 tuner(s) can select either UK or Saorsat. Finally sit in frustration wondering why you don't have the TV3 suite of channels and some sports events that are blocked on Saorsat. You could, of course, still add a terrestrial tuner and aerial into the mix if you MUST have the ability to watch multiple Irish channels at once.

    To add my two cents...
Always best to use an aerial to get soarview. Only use SoarSat when you have no other choice.

Its not clear if this is for a single TV or for distribution throughout the premises.

If for distribution then 2 x DVB-T/2 tuners will provide all Saorview channels concurrently to multiple client boxes or TVs.

For satellite channels it depends on how many tuners your require, but a Unicable LNB (single coax) is capable of feeding up to 32 different tuners (they need to be Unicable II compatible) from a single coax.

So with two coax cables, and suitable tuners, you can have up to 32 TVs/client devices with a choice of any channel from both Saorview and Satellite, if distributed on a LAN that was able to handle the bandwidth.

It really does depend on what end result you want to achieve.

    ;)

Does the hauppauge tuner work with Enigma2 receivers?

    Apparently, yes:

    EM28XX drivers.

The Hauppauge Nova TD is equivalent to Play TV (DVB-T):
