Does anyone know what the current baggage charge is for a golf bag on a Ryanair flight to Tenerife. Also, does it make any difference if you add on the bag charge after the initial booking?

It was 30 euro each way when I went there in September.

What courses are you planning to play?

We are planing to play 4 courses:- Amarillo, Golf Del Sur, Adeje and Buenavista.
We have the option of renting clubs at a cost of from €40 - €55 per week depending on brand.
I haven't booked flights yet but I heard there were some changes in baggage charges from Jan 18.

    hi roger.

travelling to malaga early april with ryanair. first proper golf break. 20ish of us heading over. looked at getting clubs over there. decent set were up around the 50 mark. decided to pay the extra tenner and am bringing my own bats with me. its 30 euro each way and the weight allowance i'm nearly sure is 20kg??

i haven't sourced a travel bag yet but if you bring a light golf bag and your clubs i'd say ya should be able to throw a few bits in with the clubs. golf shoes, golf clothes, balls etc. which is handy.

I use packing cubes to put clothes into....

....the use them as padding in and around the clubheads, with a club protector (or a brush handle) in the middle. You can use a bucket, but I found it just adds to bulk.

I also tend to take my full size bag as you can use it to stash stuff in and even fully loaded with extra clothes etc stuffed into it I've never breached the 30kg limit.

Shoes, balls, GPS etc I put in my carry on.

Where can you get those packing cubes? I haven't seen them anywhere?

You can get (expensive) ones in some camping shops (Base Camp in Abbey Street) - I got mine in TK Max. Think I've also seen them in Heatons/SportsDirect.

A trick that has worked for me (and that's both short-haul and long-haul) is one normal sized bag for two sets of clubs. All inside one of those padded travel bags Dunlop or Masters do. Irons are cable-tied together in threes and heads removed from all drivers/fairways etc. and stowed in the pockets. Shafts cable tied together in threes as well. You can get all that and an extra 'Sunday' bag into the outer protective bag and under the weight limit of 23Kg. Never had an issue with damage and have done this to Europe and the States.

The Ryanair weight limit is 20kg. It could be difficult to get under that limit with two sets of clubs in one bag. On previous trips my bag weighed almost 20kg with only one set of clubs and a few extras.
What happens at the other end when you have two sets of clubs but only one bag?

I just interweave my towels and rain gear between the clubs, always worked

I do same with towel and also stand my golf shoes on their toes around the golf club heads under the cover. I have just picked up a set of iron headcovers online for €20 which I am also going to use on next trip.
