Hello, My daughter has to complete 2 weeks work experience as part of her PLC course. She has her placement got. My question is she said some of the other students aren't doing there's at all. Basically they have gotten there organisations to sign them off to say they've been there the full working hours!!

How is this? Surely this can't be allowed?

My own daughter is doing a work placement as part of a PLC.
She’s most certainly attending for 8 hours every Wednesday .
She also has quite a demanding part time weekend job.
I could honestly with my hand on my heart that I have minus zero interest in what any other student on her course is doing and, with all due respect, I’m puzzled as to why you are bothered about other students on your child’s course?
If she’s 17/18 2 weeks work is not going to do her any harm, is it?

There is a thread in after hours about cheating in life that sounds like this:
    https://touch.boards.ie/thread/2057835319/
People lieing about their qualifications or experience for example.

I wouldn't be too bothered by what other students are doing - your daughter should focus on her own experience and on what she wants to get out of it.

It is possible that the other students have the experience and it is just a matter of documenting it.

A tutor from the college will go around to each work place at least once and see how things are going. Part of the coursework is to report on the work experience and the employers fill in a report on how the work has gone. As has been said, situations could vary, your daughter's responsibility is to do her own work experience, their skipping it will not help the others but it will not put your daughter at any disadvantage, rather the reverse.

Sorry you got me all wrong. I'm just being nosey i suppose. My daughter loves course & has every intension of doing her full hours work experience. I was just very surprised when she told me what some of the others were doing that's all. I would have thought the college would be strict about work ex and also the work ex organisation that's all

Like Looksee said i'd say tutor will go around to check, maybe some couldn't be bothered though ha

Don't think the work placement would be allowed to sign a student off

While not really a topic for this forum, same thing happened on my plc course. College sent a letter at the start detailing hours, insurance etc and that was it.

Not every student is so lucky and gets a work placement. In fact it can be sometimes quite difficult to get such a place.
This is recognized by the colleges . No use punishing those who are unable to get a work placement. It is not their fault. So why not help them in such a way you describe ?

I understand what your saying Hawthorne but I'm not talking about that I'm talking about students who have placements but just couldn't be bothered showing up

How do you know that this happens ? Are you absolutely sure about this really happening ? Do you have concrete evidence....or did you just hear about it ?

My son was only able to get a place for his PLC work experience this week despite all our efforts and the college says work experience is closed . What is the implementation for him? Does that mean that he will not be able to get a place in college this year and has to repeat PLC?

PLC is drawing to a close next week so your sons “work experience” will not be relevant . You need to go down to the college with your son and see if anything can be done but I’m afraid it looks as if he will be in some strife.
Why did he or you not approach the college about the work experience module before now? They always have a few businesses they can refer students to if they can’t get anywhere.
