Fritzbox 7360 Wireless Repeater

    Hey guys,

I recently changed my BB with Digiweb to the SIRO package so they replaced my old Fritzbox 7360 with a Fritzbox 4040. The WiFi signal quality has dropped as a result near the back of the house so that Netflix for example will constantly pause, buffer and disconnect. This would have always worked fine on the old 7360.

Anyway I'm in touch with Digiweb to try and resolve but as a plan B I configured the old 7360 as a wireless repeater which really works a treat and signal quality is improved, no pausing/buffering. The only issue now is that if the 7360 is power cycled it will not reconnect to the 4040 as a repeater.

To reconfigure it it needs to be factory reset via LAN connection and then configured and set up from scratch again. I could keep it powered constantly but there are a shortage of sockets in that area so it will more than likely be plugged out a few times a week. Is there something simple I am missing with the configuration not saving its settings? As I said it works like a dream until it has to be power cycled.

Is WiFi signal strong enough to sense FB4040 from FB7360 location once restarted?
Try to move FB7360 closer to FB4040 and see if it helps.

    After initial setup save config.
FB have function to backup/restore configuration. This should speed up process after reset.
Just in case you don't have it - FB7360 manual

Thanks smuggler, i think that's the next logical test as i have the 7360 close to the device that has the low signal so the 4040 might still be the root of the problem.

I will factory reset it beside the 4040 and then configure it to work and then power cycle it while it is beside the 4040 and see if it reconnects. That should tell me if it is still a range issue with WiFi.

If you have possibility, better run Cat cable between two Fritz!es, and set up FB7360 as "Access Point" or as they call it "IP client" instead WDS. This way your experience will be way better.

Digiweb are sending me a Fritzbox 7560 to test with after another call this morning.

You were 100% correct smuggler, in that the range of the 4040 was very poor so that when the repeater 7360 was power cycled then it could not reconnect.

I like the idea of the Cat5 cable, do you think that would work with a socket pass through TP-Link homeplug type. That way i keep my socket and I already have 2 x TP Link homeplugs set up at home. So the kitchen could then have a TP Link Cat 5 connection into the 7360 and a great signal.

Will keep that as Plan B if the 7560 doesn't improve things. I have a TP Link AV500 TL-PA4030 so I assume they are compatible with the newer devices on the Homeplug range but not as fast obviously?

TP Link AV500 TL-PA4030 is 10/100 Mbps only, but should do the job.

Where possible would recommend to eliminate additional devices - two extra boxes eating power and additional two points of failure vs single CAT5e/CAT6 run.
If your FB7360 was able to cover house from one end to the other you don't need to drag it all the way to far end, locate it in middle as AP, you could even throw it in the attic if there is power available.
