Grinding sound from petrol car

Hi, Tonight I had a drive and in the middle of it I started to hear strange sound from beneath the car. Initially, it sounds like rolling the tyre over a metal slab so I ignored it. Again I heard the same sound and I thought I rolled over another slab. But after some time, when I slowed down approaching a round about, the sound become stable and was like a hanging peace of metal beneath the car. As I was almost nearer to my home, I continued driving. I noticed that the sound is coming only at lower spead (noticed in 2nd gear) and from just beneath the gear shift lever and some times beneath the back seat. Pleaese share your experiance, if some one had gone through this. I dont have much knowledge in car stuffs

Almost impossible to diagnose without seeing or hearing the car but going by what you've posted I'd guess exhaust or engine mount. I could be totally wrong so try get someone competent to have a look. Or even throw ur head under the car in the morning a see if there's anything noticeably wrong.

Yeah have a good luck under the car in the morning before driving off. Use a torch if need be. You haven't even told us what car it is so we really don't have much chance of guessing.

Could be part of a broken coil spring.

Couldn't it be a worn brake pad? I know some come with a piece of metal that would come in contact with the disk to let you know it's time to change them before the disk itself needs replacing. Might worth double checking them.

That sounds dodge! If you let your brake pads get too worn down, we'll make sure you have to replace the disc as well!

Tis only a wee bit of metal wouldn't really damage the disc.

I doubt its that though tbh its more of a squeal noise than a grind

    That makes more sense!
It would be very cynical if they had an implicit 'destruct' system in place for people who eek out pad life.
