I have an old Sky+ HD box that I use for FTA channels. It has 2 connections from the dish and Im thinking of connecting one of these directly to the TV as it will probably be handier. Does it make any difference which cable I remove or which port I continue to use?

You have to switch sky box to single mode and its usually lnb 1 and box wont work with only one connection if you dont set it to single feed.

Thanks. Yeah, I know about setting the single feed mode but just wondering in advance if it matters which cable/port I should retain in the Sky box. I'll give it a go on LNB 1

I was unaware of that and have been using a Sky + HD box with one feed for FTV (eir sports) with one cable connected and I made no specific settings in the box.

    What does this setting do?
    Does it change much?

If you're using the box in single feed mode then you must use the Lnb 1 in port.

    Thanks for the link. ;)
If you have only one satellite feed connected and you do not enable Single Feed Mode then your Sky+HD box may experience a loss of some TVGuide data as well as failed recordings.

So not really applicable when using the box for FTA reception, as it does not record without a sub, as far as I am aware.

It only gives u less than 24 hours EPG listings though, so switching the box to single feed makes it work better IMO

I have 2 sky Hd boxes both in single feed mode.I have sky multiscreen .You still get all the recording functionality, pause and rewind live TV.The only thing you can't do is recording from a different channel to the one you are looking at. If you have saorview on the same TV you can switch to a different Saorview channel on the TV.Another option is if you have Wifi in the house connect the box to it. This will allow you to download most programmes that you are not able to record You still get all the programme info. Now and next and a 7 day programme guide. That's the setup I have. Works fine for me.

As the original post specified FTA use of the Sky box (no subscription)
I have an old Sky+ HD box that I use for FTA channels
I doubt very much if you still get recording function without a sub.
All reports to date have been a definite no to recording, without a sub.
