    My friend is looking into buying one. In the UK (he lives there).
    He is probably going to look pre facelift model so 2009-2012 with auto transmission.

    What would be the best engine option?
    Any engines with particular issues?
    Or general issues with a car?

    He is not even sure if to go for diesel or petrol so still considering both options.

    Maybe also some other similar car - maybe 5 series or A6, but would any of those be as nice as E class merc that can be got in similar price range?
