I have I friend trying to vrt a 2004 2l civic type r and it keeps coming up as costing 8k, he can't find the exact model he has on the list so is working off the closest one to it. What's the next step for getting it right? Any help would be much appreciated.

Making a VRT appointment and bringing a jar of lube with you. On a car like that unless there is a VRT Stat code for it already in the system the NCT folks will just request one from Revenue when you go for the inspection.
