replacing a tooth

The tooth to the left front tooth is chipped away and very loose and will most likely need to be replaced. Does anyone know how much it will cost? I am on a medical card and am looking for the the cheapest option.

I grind my teeth in my sleep and due to really bad anemia I chew ice a lot. I am currently getting iron injections for the anemia but they are not working.

I have put in a call back from a Smiles dentist.

    Thanks.

I don't know how much it will cost; there are a few options and the dentist will go through them all with you.

I got quite a bit of work done over the last couple of years and the Smiles dentists are great.

As for the tooth grinding, I do that too. Definitely get a mouth guard. You can get mouldable sports ones for about a fiver, but they can be fiddly to clean. If you can save up Boots stock a Dentek guard that I love for €50.

Dentures require prior approval. If it's a front tooth I'd imagine it would qualify, though no idea. http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/health/health_services/dental_aural_and_optical_services/dental_services.html

it depends on what you want to replace it with

    a Crown? an implant?

or a bridge/denture to fill the gap?

Not all these options covered on medical card however

Your best bet is to go to the dentist asap. That tooth sound like it's in a very bad way and if you get gum disease you could lose more teeth. Your medical card covers a free checkup and they'll be able to advise your further.

Craving or not, but stop chewing ice. You might as well chew on marbles. It's stronger than your teeth and will chip them, crack them, and damage the nerves. Implants will cost €1k-€2k each and will also chip if you don't mind them. They can even damage healthy teeth if you grind them in your sleep. It's much better to try to keep the teeth you have.

There is an excellent dentist in Dublin who offers composite restoration which is basically building up the shape of the tooth around the remaining piece. Pm me if you'd like the name.
