Anybody know exactly how this works have seen “pay as you go cars” advertised.

Is it just renting the car?

    Who looks after tax/nct?

    Curious how this works.

Not a detailing question ask to move to motors.

    Rental companies.

The cars are tracked and one has an app or texts and gets a code to get the keys usually in glove box.

If you're wondering about up keep I've seen many the last few months that haven't seen a wash at all.

Pay by the kilometre or some special rates.

    Look up gocar

Sorry tried to post in motors but wouldn’t work.

This is what I’m curious about really.

It’s kinda like a last resort if you can’t get finance elsewhere. You have to pay a deposit and of course it would be cheaper to just buy a car - but there is a market for what they’re doing and it would be wrong to just dismiss it.

Go car usually charge a hourly or daily fee which includes 50 km and charge 50cent per km after that.

Also a person needs to join GoCar and provide driving licence.

The OP is talking about what Mordaunts do.

    Some Interesting fees there:
The request for Consideration (application fee) is €210 - 40% of this fee will be refunded if the application is rejected. Application only remains live for 120 days from approval. After 121days client must re-apply but NO fee is charged as info is just updated. Any application that falls outside 180 days or 6 months will require a revised application which costs €90.

Any application that falls outside a current calendar year will be deemed to be exhausted meaning that the client must re-apply with fees. Application approval does not guarantee any atuomatic right to a supplied vehicle. The application fee is a "standalone" transaction and wont be refunded if the cleint decides against progressing to car collection/contract.

REFUNDS to the application fee NEVER take place. If the applicant does not proceeed to purchase fees are lost.
    The documentation fee is €250

Seems dodgy, spelling mistakes and it's completely un-regulated.

Looks like something to take advantage of people in a desperate situation.

They could offer you any old sh*te and if you don't take it you lose 250 euros.

They’re at it about 5 years IIRC. mordaunts had their own financial troubles a few years ago but are a long established company (well they probably have a different company name these days) and are well known.

Well, just like payday loans, if there is a market for it, it will work.
Unlike payday loans I wouldn't fancy renting cars out on this basis. This is Ireland, I'm pretty sure it took a 2 week summit of the 100 topmost insurance experts to work out what they will pay in insurance and it certainly will be the equivalent of the US household deficit.

Sounds like there could be business for this. How would you insure the car if not in your own name ?
