VW Golf 2008 1.9 TDI engine underpowered

I bought this recently. It has 150K miles on it but in very good condition. I find the engine underpowered. it is not as responsive as I'd like. Mind you it is 103 BHP and the last car I had was an Audi A4 2.0 Litre with what must have been higher BHP but I'm not sure.
A mechanic passed the car before I bought. He said the engine was what he expected.
I had tried a VW Golf 2010 1.6 TDI and it was much more responsive. Of course I should have bought that.
Am I expecting too much power from the car. If I paid a mechanic could they improve the engine. Maybe the turbo needs doing or something. Who would be a good mechanic to go to.

Shouldn’t be any massive power difference between the 1.9tdi and 1.6tdi as the 1.6 replaced the 1.9. Maybe get someone who is used to that 1.9 engine to drive it and see if it feels down on power.

I assume there are no warning lights on ?

coil pack. But id have though the engine warning light would be on.

Ah it’s a diesel so there is something serious wrong if it’s a coil pack :)

Probably glow plug light, which on those is like an engine warning light.

    Orange light with loops

    Fix the fault first anyway!

Even a 105PS Golf should ‘feel’ fast without actually being fast.

    It's a diesel, they're all under powered :D

To begin I'd get a vcds scan done to see if there are any codes stored, if everything is ok mechanically you could get a remap as mentioned.
That would give a nice increase in bhp but a bigger increase in torque which you would feel.

    Thanks all so far.
Can you recommend someone to do a remap. Would any mechanic do it.

I would guess a turbo boost or vacuum leak.

Could be a build up of carbon somewhere. Id get the egr valve checked.

There's no warning lights coming up. Can anyone recommend a mechanic who understands these cars well. I'm in Dublin 6.

Get someone else to drive it. You're probably expecting a bit much from the 100BHP unit. Remap if all is good. Google Joe Power from chippedire.
