Shipping cost of damaged return item

I ordered new items on eBay from an Irish seller, they came damaged but they were not damaged in transit and it was clear they were shipped in this condition. I messaged the seller about it and he offered a 50% discount or I can return them for a refund. I'm happy to return them back for a refund but I shouldn't be liable for the ~€10 it will likely cost me to post them back to Dublin.

I paid on Paypal so its been a few years since I had an issue like this.

If they admit the damage, they have to refund the postage back to them. Usually you pay and they sort you out in PayPal.

Is it a new item? Quote distance selling rules.

Just wondered how you got on, similar issue bought item with description of some minor scratches received a broken not fit for use item, contacted seller who has now updated their item description by adding more info To say item
Is in fact broken and for parts only but is not responding to My emails. I have a screen shot of the original listing which states minor scratches & have sent these pics but still no reply. Would I be liable for postage both ways should they refund as they state they accept refunds up to 30 days. Item isn’t new but it doesn’t state that on the listing either. Is there an eBay item description policy
Whereby this info should be stated in the listing.

Edit: also there’s a receipt attached to the box saying it was returned in July ‘17 due to damage.

I messaged the seller in ebay asking him to refund me the €51.00 and that he will have to refund me the cost of returning the damaged goods but that is likely to cost him €10+ and its up to him if he wants to lose even more than he already has, he may need the items back to get a refund from his supplier etc. so I'm just awaiting on his reply. I'll update the thread once I hear back.

Why don't you just get Paypal to refund the cost of shipping. Upon principle I'd like the seller to do it but you can get Paypal to pay it.

I've done this before. I got a €16 refund to send something back to the UK. Pay for postage, get receipt, take picture of it, start claim with Paypal and attach photo of receipt. Got approved within 24 hours.

Free PayPal returns ended 31/12/2017 :(. However if you pay for goods via PayPal you have protection. I'd just open a dispute with ebay/paypal and let them deal with the sellers.

If the seller is a business on site and the item is damaged then they have to pay for the return.

Got refunded the price of the original items today but not the €11.50 cost of posting them back to Dublin via Registered Post. I'll be contacting Paypal tomorrow also. Left Negative feedback for the seller also.

Got the postage refunded now, all thanks to Paypal, the seller was beyond useless.
