Hi people, i have purchased a bar with a large function room with a flat roof. Built circa. 1963. It has has a very old oil heating system (another thread req for that) but no matter what heat goes into it (use a gas heater to supplement the rads) after about 15 mins the room is getting cold. Looking for suggestions on what retro fit options I have out there.. TIA

A warm roof could be a consideration. What’s the roof build up? Concrete with asphalt or a timber deck? I’d be relaying the ply (if it is a ply) then putting a vapour check, insulation and topping it off with an EPDM membrane. Kingspan would have typical details that would cover most scenarios

I was looking for ideas for retro fitting. As we are currently using the function room and don't want any or as little down time as possible.

There is no quick, cheap & cheerful way of doing it. Do it once and do it right !!!
Tear down the existing ceiling and install 300mm Rockwool or similar insulation & fit new suspended ceiling.
Replace windows & doors with quality double or triple glazed PVC or aluminium .
Dry line walls with 65mm insulated slab and/or pump cavity.
Upgrade the heating system, new rads, TRV/ stats etc.
Tear up floor and fit under floor insulation with concrete screed and finish off with hardwood floor.
    M.

If its losing heat theres not much you can do without major works happening.
You could instal fan assisted radiators instead

Just an idea - would insulated ceiling tiles be an option?

It would involve putting in a dropped ceiling and new lighting, but in addition to improving insulation it would also improve acoustics.

I know someone that had about 2000 sq ft of these for sale before Xmas and can check if they're still there.

If you do this, and structure isn’t vented, you will have condensation above the insulation.
