Got a present of a Seiko kinectic and it came engraved with a date. Don't like the watch due to bad eyesight/ small lume on the hands..

How easyis it to remove the date from the clasp?

Probably easier to replace the bracelet tbh, or do a "tattoo fixers" over it.

Or you could get the dial and hands changed.

Where would you get the hands changed? Didn't think that would be possible

Talk to your local watch maker or have a look on google. Not a big job to change hands.

All half decent jewellers will have a horologist they can ask to do work like this. There is a scene for modding Seiko watches (I have 4) as they are quite modular, hands all have the same diameter holes so you could get some divers watch hands (big, easy to see with ace lume) off ebay and get them fitted. Lots of cheaper after market ones too.

Check out snzh57 then check out Seiko fff to give you an idea of what can be done.

Rang a company called fast fix and was told they coul not change hands...so might put it up and see can I sell her.

Really? Fastfix said that? That sounds a bit odd. They claim they co do full servicing on watches, great and small and a major part of that is removing the hands to get to the movement(in mechanical watches).

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

That is rather worrying W.. I dropped into a branch before Christmas about a service on my Stowa Marine Original which they told me would be no problem. I would of course prefer to send it directly to Stowa, but getting it there insured for the replacement value is proving very expensive!

Wibbs, just to clarify I asked them could they supply and fit more luminous hands to a kinectic watch and was told they could not supply but could change them if I had hands..

    Sorry for the confusion!!!

Genuine skx007 hands, easy to see in the day and night with Seikos savage lume.

Give me the model number of your watch and I'll spend a while looking for something to compliment it.

Why would it be difficult to remove the engraving from the clasp ? I would assume it’s stainless steel, so emery and polish it,unless it’s very deep , failing that just replace the clasp ??

    Wtf.
Am seeing if I can sell the watch as lume is not enough for me.

Sorry is the WTF aimed at me ?? I read your first post and I thought your dilemma was that you can’t read the watch , but you can’t return it because the catch is engraved? Is that the case ? If so ,the catch is stainless steel do a refurb on it .... now the WTF should be aimed at the people that are suggesting spending money on changing hands and dials , its like telling someone to knock down their house because they don’t like the color of their door...... oh and by the way I’ve 35 years experience in the jewelry trade so I think I know what I’m talking about......

Sorry I misread the start of your user name as wtf instead of wft.

    No disrespect meant,

Was never going to try and return watch.. just looking at ways to sort it out

    Again sorry!

if you’re looking to sell on the watch and you’re looking for the engraving to be removed give me a shout

Yeah, just like knocking down your house to change the front door to one you like.

I presumed as it was a present there was some sentimental value to it, therefore keep the engraved bit but get some bigger hands, it's not a tricky, expensive job - any horologist would tell you.

For selling you could replace the clasp (if that is where the engraving is) but unless it's a direct replacement 30 seconds on Google would tell you it's wrong and drop the 2nd hand price even more (poor resale values on kinetics, even mint).

Yes, you could remove the engraving but it generally looks sub optimal on clasps as it's such a small area to blend the engraving away and an area you get to look at all the time. If it's not right it will reduce the resale value, I bow to your superior knowledge in this area though as maybe it is possible to do it so well it's unnoticeable.

To the OP: as it's a kinetic the diameter of the holes on the hands is a different set of dimensions to virtually all those found on the web (automatic sized, left over from modding), you have to go to someone like monsterwatches to get kinetic diver hands (Seiko bfk the most obvious ones to go for) as in all my dealings with Seiko UK and Seiko Ireland they will only replace like for like.

Many thanks for all the replies..

Have decided to hold on to the Seiko kinectic and will use it as my weekend watch in rotation with 2 citizen watches and one Seiko 5.

And Mrs Roy calls it an obsession!!!!!!!!

4 watches? Hardly an obsession. More a passing interest?

    Tell her that!
