Chainset protection

Ahoy,

Serial chainset denuder here. My clown feet have silvered up every chainset I've ever had that had any sort of blueing (i.e. black) or logo on it.

(I've also learned the hard way to put protectors on both chainstays) But the cleat position that causes this, is also the one that gives me zero knee problems so it's here to stay.

About to install a newish 105 crankset and want to keep 'er daycent.

What's best practice in terms of transparent protectors for cranks and cranksets? Have tranpsarent wraps on both chainsets on the Winter bike and they're barely perceptible.

Only unused bikes look pristine.

i think i'd avoid buying a bike with black components, if possible. any damage to cranks or rear derailleur looks so much more obvious.

Wouldn't that be a good thing.

I'd rather spot damage in advance rather than be left stranded/or crash.

Helicopter tape is probably your best bet. Or the 3m equivalent.

I keep meaning to get some for my chainstays.

Maybe a joint order into the IFSc?

I'd rather not have my 3 month old Gruppo look ten years old...it'll get there in about ten years anyway.

I put yer ordinary everyday sellotape wide variety on as a temporary measure. I was surprised how un-noticeable this looked. Weeks turned into months and now 2 years later it's still there and the cranks are pristine.
If you do give this a try then , as with any protection, you need to scrupously degrease the cranks.

Yes, I have. They work pretty well.
I have a set on an XTR mountain bike crank

That's painting them though and if your feet pull the normal paint off the crank then they'll definitely pull that off
