fault with my niveua watchman

have my niveua watchman in may by 6years +i changed the batteries just before christmas 2017 now fault has developed i notice the the reading was between 3-4 now for no reason the sensor is reading 7 i have tried resetting but no luck what should i do have they a life span is it for the bin, thanks
