    Hi All;

    hopefully this is the correct forum for this, if not .. can a mod move it

    I am looking at purchasing a domain name that is currently available as a .ie name

    However, I really do not know anything about buying & then registering it to use as a website later

    Can anyone offer any advice please, there appears to be way too much choice to register the name .. lots of sites offering the service, but I need help sorting the "wheat from the chaff"

    Many thanks in advance

    You need to register the business name first if your not already in business https://www.cro.ie/Registration/Business-Name
    Then you can apply for the domain.

    That's just one of many legitimate claims on a domain -

    things are changing.

    At least one company selling Irish domains has said that from (some date soon) anyone who already has an account with a .ie domain will be able to register more .ie domains with no further documentation required (apart form payment, of course!)

    You don't need to register a business name, you haven't for a while now as you can apply under the discretionary rules.

    As Mrs OB suggests, the rules are apparently changing at the start of March. Looks like it will be 'register what you want as long as you have a connection to Ireland'.

    At the moment there are multiple ways to "claim" a .ie domain.
    The policy change will happen in March at some point, but the dates haven't been finalised yet.
    The amount of paperwork involved has been greatly reduced with the key focus being on showing the "connection" with Ireland.

    Any further info on when the new policy comes in?
