it's a bit "how long is a piece of string".

You've to ask yourself a few questions first.

What's the style of the wedding? If it's a classic church wedding you might be looking more at rentals so you get the "morning suit" kind of look. That's not something you'll ever wear again so not point in buying them.

What kind of suit do you want? Do you want something you can wear again for work? Do you want your groomsmen to match you, or do you want to stand out?

Personally, I always advise people to steer away from renting suits. They never fit all that well, and if budget is an issue, you're better off buying a "cheap" suit and getting it tailored to perfection for the same price as a decent quality suit that can't be altered that much, because all the fabric has to be left in it for the next guy who rents it. You know?

Louis Copeland is great, but he's not the only game in town. If you're anyway a standard kind of size, you can get really great suits in other places and then get them professionally altered, it'll make all the difference.

As for your groomsmen, it's really up to you. You could buy the suits as a gift- it's what I did with my best man, but I am very particular and we went black tie for our bridal party. What I wanted (navy velvet dinner jacket and a proper formal scoop waistcoat) isn't really available in rental places.

Another issue about rentals is if your groomsmen aren't from where the wedding is, having fittings is a nightmare. Whereas if you see a suit in say Marks & Spencers or Debenhams, you can ask them to go get it themselves and reimburse them or whatever.
