There is a lady I know, she is 95. Worked as a midwife in Ireland all her life from the 40's until 1988. She has her HSE occupational pension of 350 per week. However I'm assuming as a public servant then she paid a modified stamp and therefore wasn't entitled to a state contrib pension? Her husband was a teacher and died in 2004. He was 15 years her junior. As she was 82 when he died, would she not have been eligible for a full widows contrib pension as a stamp at class B and C modified rate would entitle her to one?

Its likely the husband was on a class D PRSI contribution. If so, he would have got an occupational pension from DOE. When he died, the widow is entitled to 50% of whatever pension he was on. Merits further enquiries, OP, imo. Maybe chase it with DOE. You will need to establish what his personnel number was. And also find out where the DOE pension office is located, so you can contact them directly.
