A terrible choice for babysitting.

A woman told yesterday how she will never see justice after a man accused of sexually assaulting her was murdered.
Martin Clancy was due before the Central Criminal Court charged with 67 counts of child rape.
He was found stabbed to death inside his home at Little O’Curry Street in Limerick on January 7.
A man in his 20s was arrested by gardai and has been released from custody as a file is being prepared for the director of public prosecutions.
Now an alleged victim of Clancy has come forward to tell her story and speak of her sadness that she has been robbed of the chance of justice by the murder.
The young woman alleges she was subjected to seven years of sexual abuse by Clancy.
The woman said her case is at the extreme end of child sexual abuse and said Clancy showed no remorse for his actions. She added: “He raped me when I was 12 years old – it wasn’t touching and feeling it was very serious. I have never gone into any detail about this with other victims. “I thought it was just me because I was a girl but he was also attacking other victims who were young boys.”
The woman now fears there could be others preyed on as she alleges Clancy was a regular babysitter in the community.

Usually, those people who are chosen by parents to be babysitters but are not related to the children they are babysitting are female.

Even if the parents of the victims in this case were unaware that Clancy was a paedophile, it was bizarre of them to chose him to be a babysitter because it is obvious from the pictures of him on the page I've linked here that he was a wrong 'un.

Can't get much more justice than death.

That's a pretty stupid method of detecting child molesters.

Child molesters don't just groom their victims, they often groom their parents too. Also, they know how to prey on the kids whose parents maybe won't be on the ball as much. Just saying.

But all of the people who I know and who have been babysitters and are not related to the children they were caring for are women or girls. Usually, parents ask a girl of a neighbouring family to babysit their children. So why would they agree to let the likes of Clancy babysit their children, even if they knew him to speak to?

All of the child molesters whose pictures I've seen in the media have a dodgy appearance. For example, Tom Humphries' face looks like the face of a child but with a beard. Furthermore, a decade and a half ago, an Armagh man called Thomas Muldoon was jailed for possession of child porn - he had a baby face. In my opinion, it indicates immaturity, i.e. arrested development with regard to sexual desire (It's an explanation, not an excuse).

I'd pick an adult male I trust, brother or friend, to babysit over a teenage girl anyday

I must emphasise that I was referring to babysitters who are not related to the children they are babysitting. As for men who babysit, they would usually be related to the child, i.e. older brother or cousin, uncle (by blood or by marriage), grandfather.
