Not sure if this is the right place for this, but does anyone know how I could find someone after 40 years. I have tried googling his name and facebook but cannot find him or his brother. Any ideas please?

Your question is a bit vague but-

If you go to the General Register's Office- and check out the books you could see if the person married, which will also have their intended address after marriage, you can check for subsequent children. If its after 40 years- unfortunately- you'd also be advised to look for death certs. If no death cert- you can leverage any marriage cert- to look at historic voters registers (available in the main county libraries- can be time consuming- many of them are on microfiche)- and once you have the last instance of a voter's register- then you can start to ask questions in the local post office- or look at the local graveyard to get an idea of the family tree- and then ask the sacristan in the church questions- or look for baptism/confirmation certs etc etc.........

Finding someone is normally a lot easier than you might imagine- but it is time consuming- very time consuming- and often you might have to use social engineering on locals to get uptodate addresses etc- but its very doable.

Ps- if there is no trace of them or their brother- a) have you the right name- and if you do- b) there is a strong likelyhood that they emigrated. You have about 3:1 ratio who went to the UK rather than the US- and you have additional sources you can leverage to try and trace them- but obviously its easier to find someone in a population of 4.5 million- than in 50 million or 380 million........... Even if they did emigrate- it just means you will have to leverage other tools in your search- but before you start considering this possibility- exhaust your local options first.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THAT INFORMATION. I DID NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO.
