Double Jaw Surgery for Open Bite

    Hi

I am 36 yo and have an open bite. I have been to see four Ortho's in Dublin and three of them have said their recommendation would be double jaw surgery (with metal braces). They said braces on their own would not give satisfactory result. One said I could try Invisalign.

All four said open bite is difficult to treat....so the other option is to leave alone.

I am now considering the options. I would like to hear from anyone who has had open bite treatment and/or jaw surgery in Ireland. If you could let me know your Ortho and Surgeon and your opinion of them and the treatment I would really appreciate it.

Also - I watched a couple Youtube videos of people who had lingual braces and just got the regular metal braces put on for the few weeks through the surgery. The Ortho's I saw didn't seem to consider lingual braces an option, thoughts? Are lingual braces only suitable for certain cases?

    Thanks

I guess you need to gauge yourself if the benefits outweigh the risks. Are you persuing this for functional or aesthetic reasons or both? Are there any disadvantages to not treating & just accepting the status quo?
It would be worth asking the orthodontists if it would be possible to view before& after photos of other anterior open bite cases they've treated in the past. Also ask them if other braces are an option in your specific case.
