Is there anywhere in Dublin or South East that runs anything for basic mechanics training?
I've checked out nightcourses.com and it seems like they've all already started. Ideally something starting between march/summer would be ideal. Other question I have is are these too basic? I can do most servicing myself(sparks, brakes, oil etc.) but actually understanding how an engine works etc. I'd like to get to know.

I'd want to do this with my little brother who is 17. He wants to be a mechanic so this is the main reason for the course. If it gave him a better chance of an apprenticeship It would be worthwhile

Sorry I can't help you with the courses but I do know that businesses are taking on apprentices again.
Your brother could do up a CV and call to the garages in his area.

Yeah i'll definitely have him do all of that. He finishes school this year and college won't be on the agenda. I figured getting a course in to pad his CV out a little could make him stand out.

In cork there's a PLC course for mechanics. It runs from September to May and entry is by interview.
I can't be sure but I'd imagine there's similar in Dublin.
