Wall Prep Before Painting

    Hi folks,

Repainting my living room hopefully this week and need to do a bit of prep before I get down to the job. We bought the house a couple of years ago and there is one corner wall which has some flaking to the paint work or rather to the skimming on top of the plasterboard. This means there is some flaking or uneven locations on this wall.

I have two options as I see it and hoping for some feedback and not a big DIY person.

First is to sand these areas down a bit, use some filler to get smooth, sand again to smooth/blend and use a primer to ensure follow up paint sticks.

Second is to skim the wall again (1.5m wide dry wall section) which would get someone in to complete as I would be useless at this.

Any other thoughts? I think first option would work but want to see what people think. I can post a few pictures later if this helps.

Option 1 seems like the best option depending on the damage.
Gently scrape/sand away as much of the old paint as possible.

Get some white emulshion and mix it with roughly 2 parts paint 8 parts water and give it a good mix. Give the wall 1-2 coats of this very watery paint.

The point of this watery paint is to have the plaster soak up these paint particles and bind correctly. The subsequent coats of your actual paint will stick to the watery white layer instead of sitting on top of the plaster where it peals off easily.
