Wedding abroad, just the 2 of us

Hi, myself and my boyfriend are thinking of getting married abroad just the 2 of us. Has anyone done this and have any advice?
We want it to be a civil wedding/honeymoon with no guests. Can we book this ourselves online without a co-ordinator? Is it possible to book it all without having to travel to the country in advance to set things up? We are thinking of Europe, preferably Portugal or Spain but I'm open to suggestions!

Oh and neither of us have any interest in big, traditional weddings and I know our families won't mind either :)

    Thanks!

You’ll have to check out the legalities of getting married in whatever country you pick. I know you cannot have a civil ceremony in Spain that is legal here-you’d have to do it here first and just a blessing there. You can only get legally married in Spain if it’s a church wedding.
So just worth researching where you can have a legal ceremony before you set your heart on somewhere.
