Smokey Oil Bolier

Arrived home from work yesterday to find very black smoke/soot spewing from the boiler exhaust. It’s a Grant euroflame 50/90 ~15 years old.

Removed the air intake pipe from the burner to find a ball of dog hair inside – obviously got sucked up from outside!

Anyway I decided to clean the boiler when I was in there as there was a lot of fresh soot. Noticed the bottom baffle plate to be damaged around the notch area where it fits into the chamber. There is a lot of erosion and a decent crack in it – see the attached photos.

Can these baffle be replaced, and if I don’t change it will the boiler not work correctly?

Since removing the dog hair it seems to be working as normal.

Yes the baffles can be replaced. The boiler will still work fine with that baffle. To get a boiler working correctly the boiler has to be set up using a flue gas analyser to mi.

That (slightly) damaged baffel is still in perfect working condition IMHO
    I wouldn't change it.

But they are easily ordered through your local plumbing supplies, preferably a Grant supplier.
Grants normally do at least one delivery a week to populated areas.

Bernese?, though they don't like the heat.
