Retention issue

I've a quick question regarding retention on a building contract.
The builder made a really bad job of the alarm cable installation meaning we can't use any cables for any of the windows, just for the front door, pirs, bell box and keypad. It's going to cost an extra €500 for wireless sensors as a result. Is this something that should come out of retention or is it just tough luck?
The cables were something that were brought up a few times and they just didn't bother running them to the windows properly. They all just came out at the point where the wall and the ceiling met as the plasterers just pulled them out of their way to make their job easier.

Have you any photos of what way the alarm cables were left?
Can the contractor argue that the cables were in place but another trade damaged them? If so, what trade and was that trade under the control of the contractor?
Who brought in the Plasterers? You or he contractor?
its the contractors/sparks job, so once the contractor provided this service, then its on him to provide it.

I would imagine this would need to be fixed out of the retention money, or offer the contractor to remedy the situation before you hand over the retention money.

This should have been highlighted at snagging, but no point going on about that now.

Well if it was all under his control, it is his issue to fix. Might not strictly be something that retention would be typically there is cover but while you are holding the money, you are on the right side of it.
Request that this be addressed prior to settling account and see how it goes.
